Trevor Wye studied the flute privately with Geoffrey Gilbert and Marcel Moyse.
He was a freelance player on the London scene for many years and has made several recordings.
Although he never had the disadvantage of attending a College of Music, for 14 years he was Professor at the Guildhall School of Music, London, and for 21 years, Professor at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester--a post from which he recently retired to devote more time to writing and traveling.
He is the author of seven original books about technical aspects of flute playing, The Practice Book Series, which have been translated and published in German, Dutch, Portuguese, Norwegian, Italian, Japanese and Chinese, and have received, worldwide acclaim. He has edited over 150 other works, and also has written and published several jazz arrangements for five flutes, bass and percussion.
He currently teaches at his studio in Hastingleigh, Kent, where he accepts six students each year from all over the world on a seven-month residential course.
He travels throughout the world giving masterclasses and recitals, which include popular presentation, "'An Afflatus of Flutes," in which he plays on a large assortment of flutes.
He was founder and Director of the International Summer School, which began its life with two summers of Moyse masterclasses, and was founder of the British Flute Society. Currently, he is chairman of his local Gardening Society.
In 1990, he was made a Fellow of the Royal Northern College of Music
by H.R.H., the Duchess of Kent.
